Clean Start
a solo show inspired by Grinnell, Iowa

Clean Start asks how our jobs shape who we are and how we show up for our community

Clean Start is grounded in interviews I conducted with twenty women in central Iowa about their jobs and how their work lives and personal lives intersect. The piece follows the stories of three fictional women - Joyce (a minister's wife we follow from ages 8 to 87), Hallie (the owner of an antique shop), and Beth (a long-standing Maytag employee) - and how their lives begin to overlap.

Clean Start premiered at the Grinnell Historical Museum in 2010 and has been performed at the Grinnell Art Museum, Link Community School in Newark, NJ, and the Chicago Fringe Festival. It was also presented at Chef Stephanie Izard’s Little Goat Diner as a very special piece of immersive dinner theatre.

Bring Clean Start to your school or organization.

The Clean Start Performance + Workshop Series has traveled to educational institutions like Link Community School and Grinnell College.
